#### Record and share your terminal sessions, the simple way

asciinema is a command-line tool for recording terminal sessions.

Unlike typical screen recording software, which records visual output of a screen into a heavyweight video files (.mp4, .mov), asciinema recorder runs inside a terminal, capturing terminal session output into a lightweight recording files in the asciicast format (.cast).

The recordings can be replayed in a terminal, embedded on a web page with the asciinema player, or published to an asciinema server, such as asciinema.org, for further sharing.

Typical use cases include creating tutorials, demonstrating command-line tools, and sharing reproducible bug reports.

## Enable snaps on elementary OS and install asciinema

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.

Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions.

### Enable snapd

Snap can be installed on elementary OS from the command line. Open *Terminal* from the Applications launcher and type the following:

```
sudo apt update
sudo apt install snapd
```

Either log out and back in again, or restart your system, to ensure snap’s paths are updated correctly.

### Install asciinema

To install asciinema, simply use the following command:

```
sudo snap install asciinema --classic
```
