They provide a consistent and reliable execution environment for the snap packages that use them. This core base snap additionally includes the snapd binaries, which in later releases are installed separately as the snapd snap. For more details on the snapd snap, see . The core base snap provides a runtime environment based on Ubuntu 16.04 ESM (Xenial Xerus). Other Ubuntu environment base snaps include: * Core 18: * Core 20: * Core 22: * Core 24: **Using a base snap** Base snaps are installed automatically when a snap package requires them. Only one of each type of base snap is ever installed. They update automatically and roll back gracefully. Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions. ### Enable snapd On Arch Linux, snap can be installed from the [Arch User Repository (AUR).](https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/snapd/) The [manual build process](https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository#Installing_packages) is the Arch-supported install method for AUR packages, and you’ll need the [prerequisites](https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository#Prerequisites) installed before you can install any AUR package.
