#### Compare and merge folders and files side by side, with three-way merge

DeltaView compares folders and files side by side and merges the differences, for developers, sysadmins and anyone who keeps two versions of something. Copy changes across, resolve three-way merges, and compare archives and SFTP servers as easily as local folders.

**Features**

* **Folder compare**: a dual-pane tree scanned in the background and cancellable, with filters, sorting, ignore patterns, `.gitignore` support and HTML or CSV reports
* **File compare**: side-by-side diff with highlights inside each line, syntax colours, a minimap, find, and rules for whitespace, case, line endings and blank lines
* **Merging**: copy a change left or right, or edit in place, with undo; three-way merge shows Left, Merged and Right and applies clean changes up front
* **Folder sync** with a preview of every step and a confirmation before anything is overwritten or deleted
* **Structured data**: JSON, YAML and CSV compared by structure, so reordered keys and rows are not changes
* **Images**: side by side, swipe, onion skin and pixel difference
* **Archives and servers**: zip and tar archives (read-only) and SFTP servers, with host keys you confirm
* **Command line**: `delta-view LEFT RIGHT`, and `delta-view --merge LOCAL BASE REMOTE --output MERGED` for use as a `git mergetool`
* **Yours to tune**: themes, colour-blind-safe diff colours, editor font, rebindable shortcuts; files keep their encoding and line endings when saved

**Snap notes**
DeltaView is strictly confined. It can open files in your home folder (not hidden folders such as `~/.ssh`; pick an SFTP key file with the file chooser instead) and connects to the SFTP servers you choose. To compare files on USB drives and other removable media, connect the interface once:

`sudo snap connect delta-view:removable-media`

Other locations, such as `/tmp`, are outside the snap's reach.

## Enable snaps on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and install DeltaView

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.

Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions.

### Enable snapd

Snap is available for [Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8](https://www.redhat.com/en/enterprise-linux-8) and RHEL 7, from the 7.6 release onward.

The packages for RHEL 7, RHEL 8, and RHEL 9 are in each distribution’s respective [Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL) (EPEL) repository. The instructions for adding this repository diverge slightly between RHEL 7, RHEL 8 and RHEL 9, which is why they’re listed separately below.

The EPEL repository can be added to **RHEL 9** with the following command:

```
sudo dnf install https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-9.noarch.rpm
sudo dnf upgrade
```

The EPEL repository can be added to **RHEL 8** with the following command:

```
sudo dnf install https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-8.noarch.rpm
sudo dnf upgrade
```

The EPEL repository can be added to **RHEL 7** with the following command:

```
sudo rpm -ivh https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
```

Adding the *optional* and *extras* repositories is also recommended:

```
sudo subscription-manager repos --enable "rhel-*-optional-rpms" --enable "rhel-*-extras-rpms"
sudo yum update
```

Snap can now be installed as follows:

```
sudo yum install snapd
```

Once installed, the *systemd* unit that manages the main snap communication socket needs to be enabled:

```
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
```

To enable *classic* snap support, enter the following to create a symbolic link between `/var/lib/snapd/snap` and `/snap`:

```
sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
```

Either log out and back in again or restart your system to ensure snap’s paths are updated correctly.

### Install DeltaView

To install DeltaView, simply use the following command:
