#### Turn photos of handwritten notes into an editable Word document

Likhit turns photos of handwritten pages — class notes, assignments, letters, diaries — into a clean, editable Word (.docx) document. Add your photos or a scanned PDF, check the text, and save. That's it.

**Three ways to read handwriting**

Likhit automatically picks the best reader available on your computer. You can also choose one yourself from the "Read with" menu.

* **Cloud AI** — highest accuracy. Uses your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible service.
* **Local AI** — runs a vision model (for example qwen2.5vl) on your own machine through Ollama or LM Studio. Nothing leaves your computer and no internet is needed.
* **Offline OCR** — built-in Tesseract. Works fully offline with no setup. Best for neat or printed writing.

**A real Word document, not a text dump**

* Real Word headings and bullet lists
* Broken lines joined back into proper paragraphs
* Unclear words marked [?] and highlighted in yellow, so you know exactly what to check
* Fix any mistake in the text panel before saving
* Optional: the original photo under each page
* One page per photo, with page breaks

**Private by design**

In Local AI and Offline OCR modes Likhit works completely offline — your handwriting and text never leave your computer. Cloud AI is used only when you add your own API key and choose it. API keys are saved in your system keyring when one is available.

**Made for students and teachers**

Likhit is built for students who write notes by hand and need them typed up, and works well on low-end laptops and without internet.

## Enable snaps on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and install Likhit

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.

Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions.

### Enable snapd

Snap is available for [Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8](https://www.redhat.com/en/enterprise-linux-8) and RHEL 7, from the 7.6 release onward.

The packages for RHEL 7, RHEL 8, and RHEL 9 are in each distribution’s respective [Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL) (EPEL) repository. The instructions for adding this repository diverge slightly between RHEL 7, RHEL 8 and RHEL 9, which is why they’re listed separately below.

The EPEL repository can be added to **RHEL 9** with the following command:

```
sudo dnf install https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-9.noarch.rpm
sudo dnf upgrade
```

The EPEL repository can be added to **RHEL 8** with the following command:

```
sudo dnf install https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-8.noarch.rpm
sudo dnf upgrade
```

The EPEL repository can be added to **RHEL 7** with the following command:

```
sudo rpm -ivh https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
```

Adding the *optional* and *extras* repositories is also recommended:

```
sudo subscription-manager repos --enable "rhel-*-optional-rpms" --enable "rhel-*-extras-rpms"
sudo yum update
```

Snap can now be installed as follows:

```
sudo yum install snapd
```

Once installed, the *systemd* unit that manages the main snap communication socket needs to be enabled:

```
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
```

To enable *classic* snap support, enter the following to create a symbolic link between `/var/lib/snapd/snap` and `/snap`:

```
sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
```

Either log out and back in again or restart your system to ensure snap’s paths are updated correctly.

### Install Likhit

To install Likhit, simply use the following command:
