#### A high performance, small footprint Captive Portal

OpenNDS is a high performance, small footprint Captive Portal,
offering by default a simple splash page restricted Internet connection
yet incorporates an API that allows the creation of sophisticated
authentication applications.

After installing the snap you can adjust the configuration file in
/var/snap/opennds/common/opennds/opennds.conf following
the documentation at <https://openndsdocs.readthedocs.io/en/stable/>

Then you need to allow the snap access to the firewall, network configuration,
mount information and some system resources with the commands

```
 sudo snap connect opennds:firewall-control
 sudo snap connect opennds:hardware-observe
 sudo snap connect opennds:mount-observe
 sudo snap connect opennds:network-observe
 sudo snap connect opennds:system-observe
```

After connecting these snap interfaces, the opennds daemon will start
automatically. To interact with the daemon the snap package ships
the `opennds.ndsctl` command

## Enable snaps on CentOS and install opennds

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.

Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions.

### Enable snapd

Snap is available for [CentOS 7.6+](https://snapcraft.io/install/opennds/centos), and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6+, from the [Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL) (EPEL) repository. The EPEL repository can be added to your system with the following command:

```
sudo yum install epel-release
```

Snap can now be installed as follows:

```
sudo yum install snapd
```

Once installed, the *systemd* unit that manages the main snap communication socket needs to be enabled:

```
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
```

To enable *classic* snap support, enter the following to create a symbolic link between `/var/lib/snapd/snap` and `/snap`:

```
sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
```

Either log out and back in again, or restart your system, to ensure snap’s paths are updated correctly.

### Install opennds

To install opennds, simply use the following command:

```
sudo snap install opennds --edge
```
