#### Raster image editor inspired by Paint.NET

Paint NEW is a cross-platform raster image editor inspired by Paint.NET.
It provides layers, selections, brushes, shapes, text, image adjustments,
AI-assisted selection and upscaling, and common image export formats
(PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP, ICO, TIFF, PDF) as well as its own multi-layer
project format (.pnx) and Paint.NET .pdn import.

The snap is self-contained: it bundles its own Java runtime and the local
AI models, so no Java installation is required.

## Enable snaps on Debian and install Paint NEW

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.

Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions.

### Enable snapd

On Debian 9 (Stretch) and newer, snap can be installed directly from the command line:

```
sudo apt update
sudo apt install snapd
```

After this, install the snapd snap in order to get the latest snapd:

```
sudo snap install snapd
```

### Install Paint NEW

To install Paint NEW, simply use the following command:

```
sudo snap install paintnew
```
