The file is never loaded into memory; only the visible lines are drawn. Verified up to 258 GB / 4.5 billion lines in a single file. * uvf searches many files in one run, plain text and seven compressed formats mixed (gz, bz2, xz, lzma, zst, lz4, br), with no external commands. Add -open and the hits appear in the window as file-number:line; double-click to read around a hit. * Search the text inside Word, Excel and PDF files (.docx, .xlsx, .pdf) too, with uvf or in the window. The text is extracted for reading and searching; the original files are not changed * Encoding auto-detection (UTF-8, Shift\_JIS, EUC-JP, UTF-16), bookmarks remembered per file, keyboard shortcuts, real-time tail. **Setup after install (once)** Use the command as `uvf`: ``` sudo snap alias uwview.uvf uvf ``` Read files on USB drives and other removable media (/media, /mnt): ``` sudo snap connect uwview:removable-media ``` Check: `uvf --version` shows the version. Without the alias, run the command as `uwview.uvf`. To undo the alias: `sudo snap unalias uvf`. **Examples** ``` uvf 'logs/**/*.log' ERROR uvf 'logs/*.gz' ERROR -open ``` Quote file patterns so that uvf, not the shell, expands them. `uwview` opens the GUI. **Where the snap can read** Files in your home folder, and removable media after the connect command above. Files elsewhere, such as /var/log, are not reachable from the snap; copy them under your home folder first. Free for personal and internal company use under the PolyForm Internal Use License 1.0.0. Snaps are discoverable and installable from the [Snap Store](https://snapcraft.io/store), an app store with an audience of millions. ### Enable snapd Snap can be installed on Pop!\_OS from the command line.
