JSON Editor by Loam is a local workbench for JSON-family files on your Linux desktop. Open .json, .jsonl and .ndjson files, edit source, validate syntax, format complete JSON, inspect nested structure and view compatible arrays as tables. No account is required for local document processing.
Keep exact JSON numbers and Unicode values intact through supported editing and saves. JSONL and NDJSON remain line-oriented formats. Complete JSON documents must validate before saving. In JSONL and NDJSON, applied record edits must be valid single-line JSON; unchanged malformed records remain available for review. Compatible arrays can be exported to formula-safe CSV. Keep a backup and check saved output before relying on it.
Use the document tools for schema, structure, queries and comparison. Choose light or dark mode. On narrower windows, Tools becomes a dedicated in-app destination and preserves your document and drafts when you return.
Document processing takes place on your device. Selected file names, paths, keys, values and document contents are not intentionally included in analytics or diagnostics. Release builds send limited app-start analytics to PostHog and sanitized lifecycle/error diagnostics to Sentry. Reports use a random app-installation identifier stored locally and a fresh launch identifier. Person-profile creation is disabled. The providers receive ordinary network information, including IP addresses; PostHog can retain IP addresses and derive approximate location. The app does not request precise device location and has no in-app analytics opt-out. See https://jsonfile.tools/privacy for details and https://jsonfile.tools/support for help.
Snap permissions control file access. Use Open in the app if your file manager does not recognize the file type. The home permission permits ordinary non-hidden files you own in your home directory. For external drives under /media, /run/media or /mnt, connect the optional interface with: sudo snap connect json-editor:removable-media. If a selected destination cannot be written, keep your edits open and save a copy to an accessible home folder.

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.
Snaps are discoverable and installable from the Snap Store, an app store with an audience of millions.
Snap is available for CentOS 7.6+, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6+, from the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository. The EPEL repository can be added to your system with the following command:
sudo yum install epel-release
Snap can now be installed as follows:
sudo yum install snapd
Once installed, the systemd unit that manages the main snap communication socket needs to be enabled:
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
To enable classic snap support, enter the following to create a symbolic link between /var/lib/snapd/snap and /snap:
sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
Either log out and back in again, or restart your system, to ensure snap’s paths are updated correctly.
To install JSON Editor by Loam, simply use the following command:
sudo snap install json-editor
Browse and find snaps from the convenience of your desktop using the snap store snap.
