Kode is a full code editor and IDE that runs in your terminal. Open a project locally or over SSH and get a mouse-aware editor with code intelligence, search, Git, database and REST clients, plus image and hex viewers, all in one window.
Understands your code without any setup. Highlighting, completion, go to definition and find usages work straight away, across files and including your unsaved edits. Analysis is deepest for Kotlin and C, followed by C++, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Swift, C#, Lua, SQL, Zig and more. Java, Rust and others get pattern-based symbols, and more than 200 other languages and file types get keyword highlighting. Add a language server for compiler-grade results.
A real editor. Multiple cursors and selections, word-by-word navigation, folding, a minimap, undo and redo, and full mouse support. Turn every search match into a cursor with Alt+Enter.
Find anything. Press Ctrl+F to find and replace in the current window with regular expressions. Press Alt+F to search the whole project and edit the results right inside the search dialog.
Git. Stage changes, write commits, switch local branches, create tags, browse history, read side-by-side or unified diffs, and restore a single chunk.
Databases. Run SQL and browse schemas on anything with a JDBC driver. Database connections need Java 21 or newer; everything else works without Java.
REST client. Import and export Postman collections, import OpenAPI, and send HTTP, Server-Sent Events and WebSocket requests with OAuth, AWS Signature, NTLM and other authentication.
Images and binary files. View images in the terminal, and inspect binary files in a hex view. Byte edits stay in memory, because binary files can't be saved yet.
Picks up where you left off. Open files, undo history and even unsaved changes survive a restart.
Run it with: kode-rs /path/to/project

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.
Snaps are discoverable and installable from the Snap Store, an app store with an audience of millions.
Snap can be installed from the command line on openSUSE Leap 15.x and Tumbleweed.
You need first add the snappy repository from the terminal. Choose the appropriate command depending on your installed openSUSE flavor.
Tumbleweed:
sudo zypper addrepo --refresh https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/system:/snappy/openSUSE_Tumbleweed snappy
Leap 15.x:
sudo zypper addrepo --refresh https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/system:/snappy/openSUSE_Leap_15.6 snappy
If needed, Swap out openSUSE_Leap_15. for, openSUSE_Leap_16.0 if you’re using a different version of openSUSE.
With the repository added, import its GPG key:
sudo zypper --gpg-auto-import-keys refresh
Finally, upgrade the package cache to include the new snappy repository:
sudo zypper dup --from snappy
Snap can now be installed with the following:
sudo zypper install snapd
You then need to either reboot, logout/login or source /etc/profile to have /snap/bin added to PATH.
Additionally, enable and start both the snapd and the snapd.apparmor services with the following commands:
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.apparmor
To install Kode, simply use the following command:
sudo snap install kode-rs
Browse and find snaps from the convenience of your desktop using the snap store snap.
