Simple Video Converter is a high-performance, secure, and offline GUI frontend for FFmpeg, designed to make video conversion easy and fast.
The application is equipped with a unique Intelligent Adaptive Engine featuring two distinct embedded conversion pipelines:
Engine 8.1 (High Performance): Used for recent hardware and the latest graphics drivers.
Engine 7.1 (Maximum Compatibility): Used as an automatic fallback to ensure hardware acceleration remains perfectly operational, even on older configurations. The system automatically analyzes your hardware at startup and selects the most efficient engine with zero user intervention.
What's New in v1.7.4.0:
Unified Drag & Drop Restrictions: Enhanced internal security boundaries. Processed files (marked as Processing, Done, Failed, or Cancelled) are now strictly locked in place. Attempting to drag-and-drop a completed task will automatically abort the operation, preserve the scrollbar state, and trigger the appropriate warning dialog matching the secure behavior of the arrow buttons.
Absolute Scrollbar Persistence: Fixed the aggressive layout recentering glitch. The queue viewport now strictly memorizes its absolute pixel position during list refreshes. Moving items via buttons or reordering them via mouse actions keeps the viewport completely stationary, eliminating any "phantom jumps."
Universal "Copy" Mode (Passthrough): Instantly remux or extract audio and subtitle streams without re-encoding the video track. Achieves blazing speeds up to 64x–68x with zero quality loss.
Native Keyboard Controls: Full support for Delete and Backspace keys to instantly remove selected files from the queue, matching standard desktop application behaviors.
Advanced Queue Ergonomics: Full support for multi-selection (Ctrl + Click / Shift + Click), batch removals, and instant "Move to Top" or "Move to Bottom" actions.
Visual Drag & Drop: Fluidly reorder your conversion tasks directly with the mouse.
Delta Storage Insights: A new "Output / Gain" column tracks exact storage space saved or lost (in MB and %) immediately after processing.
Intelligent Error Handling: Hardware incompatibilities (such as AV1 VA-API constraints on older configurations) are intercepted gracefully with clear, helpful guidance.
Key Features:
100% Offline: Your files never leave your computer. Privacy first.
Multi-Stream Support: Full management and mapping of multiple audio tracks and subtitles. Choose exactly what to keep.
Total Hardware Acceleration: Advanced support for NVIDIA (NVENC) and Intel/AMD (VA-API).
Batch Processing & Session Reports: Convert multiple files at once with real-time tracking and comprehensive post-batch performance summaries.
Modern UI: Beautiful interface with multiple themes (Cyberpunk, Neon, Dark, Light).
International: Interface available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil) and Japanese.
Output Formats: MP4, MKV, AVI, WebM.
Smart Presets: Simple configurations for immediate use without complex settings.
Open Source Compliance (FFmpeg):
This application includes pre-compiled FFmpeg binaries (Versions 8.1 and 7.1) distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3. Source code and compilation scripts are available via official upstream repositories. Simple Video Converter acts as a proprietary graphical interface for these tools.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Accessing External Drives (USB / Secondary Drives)
By default, the strict security confinement prevents the app from reading your USB sticks or external hard drives. If your videos are stored on removable media, you must grant access by running this command once in your terminal:
sudo snap connect simple-video-converter:removable-media
