SoftHSM is a software implementation of a cryptographic store accessible through a PKCS#11 interface. It started as part of the OpenDNSSEC project and is designed to meet those requirements, but it also works with other applications that speak PKCS#11.
This snap ships softhsm2-util, softhsm2-dump-file, softhsm2-keyconv, and the libsofthsm2 PKCS#11 module. Token files are stored under the snap's user-common directory unless SOFTHSM2_CONF points at another config.

If you’re running Kubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) or later, including Kubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and Kubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish), you don’t need to do anything. Snap is already installed and ready to go.
Versions of Kubuntu between 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) and 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) don’t include snap by default, but snap can be installed from the command line as follows:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install snapd
To install SoftHSM, simply use the following command:
sudo snap install softhsm
