Local, encrypted backups of every machine to your own drives
Aegis Backup backs up the computers in a household or small office to USB drives and a NAS, and shows at a glance which data is safe and which is not: what is not backed up, how stale the newest copy is, and how strong the protection is (3-2-1 rule: Unprotected, Weak, Good, Strong).
Files are classified (backup required, recommended, or not needed) by editable rules. Backups are encrypted and deduplicated by the bundled restic engine, in restic's open format, so they can be restored with plain restic even without Aegis Backup. Restore any file or folder from any snapshot in a few clicks.
Nothing goes to a cloud: no accounts, no telemetry, no internet calls. An optional AI advisor runs on a local model through Ollama, installed separately.
Snap note: strict confinement can't read hidden files and folders directly in your home folder (such as ~/.ssh or ~/.config), so the snap skips them. Use the .deb from yourprivacysw.com to back those up too.
Aegis Backup is in beta and free to use. Some features may later require a one-time license purchase; restore is never limited.
