Install latest/candidate of chafa
Ubuntu 16.04 or later?
Make sure snap support is enabled in your Desktop store.
Install using the command line
sudo snap install chafa --candidate

Chafa is a highly configurable command line utility that converts images and GIFs into sixel or ANSI/Unicore character outputs. It has support for alpha transparency, multiple colour modes and colour spaces, combining selectable ranges of Unicode characters to product the desired output.
