Professional local video player powered by ffmpeg

HordePlayer is a fast, local-first video player for Linux that plays what browsers cannot — MKV, HEVC and AC3/E-AC3 audio — by converting media on the fly with ffmpeg through a tiny HTTP server that lives entirely on your machine.

## Highlights

  • Plays local files and links: MP4, MKV, WebM, MOV, TS, HLS (.m3u8), DASH (.mpd)
  • Live MKV + AC3/E-AC3 → MP4/AAC remux/transcode (the file format browsers refuse)
  • Audio boost (0.5x-6x), dynamic normalization, and EBU R128 loudness
  • Background caching for instant seeking on large files
  • Playlist, playback speed, loop, subtitles, picture-in-picture, fullscreen
  • RTL / Persian-first interface with a clean SVG icon set
  • Private by design: binds 127.0.0.1 only — nothing leaves your machine

## Install

 sudo snap install hordeplayer

AppImage, .deb and .rpm builds are also available from the [GitHub releases](https://github.com/Hordekiller/HordePlayer/releases).

## Usage

Paste a link or drop a file into the player and press Play. For MKV files or quiet AC3 audio, press Transcode to route the source through ffmpeg. Tune audio, playlists, server address and more in the sidebar tabs.

## License

[GPL-3.0](https://github.com/Hordekiller/HordePlayer/blob/main/LICENSE). HordePlayer invokes ffmpeg strictly as an external process; ffmpeg is distributed under its own (L)GPL license and is not linked into this application.
