MegaPDF

MegaPDF does the one job most people actually have with a PDF: someone sent you a form, and you need to send it back filled in, checked off and signed. No account, no subscription, no cloud. Everything happens on your own computer.

Filling a form in:

• Tick any box — real form fields and plain printed squares alike, including drawn checkboxes other applications treat as decoration.
• Type on any line, in the size and face that matches the form. What you add is real, searchable text, not a sticker on top of the page.
• Sign by drawing, or from a photograph of a signature on paper — the white background disappears. Signatures stay in a library on your own computer.
• Search the whole document as you type, with every match counted.
• Print through your desktop's own print dialogue.

Changing what is already on the page:

• Correct the document's own text. MegaPDF keeps the document's font when that font can draw everything you typed, and tells you when it had to use a similar one. If a change would disturb the rest of the page, it asks first rather than quietly moving things.
• Redact: mark text or a picture, and MegaPDF removes it from the file. Whiteout covers rather than removes, and says so.
• Open a protected PDF with its password, and set, change or remove one. Where the owner restricted what may be changed, MegaPDF honours that and says why.

Very large documents open straight away: MegaPDF reads a file as it needs it rather than loading the whole thing, so a 2.5 GB document of a thousand pages opens in milliseconds instead of a minute, and in megabytes instead of gigabytes.

Nothing is lost. Every document is verified before your original is touched, so a failed save cannot corrupt the file someone sent you, and closing or quitting with unsaved changes always asks first.

MegaPDF makes no network connection, and this snap asks for no network permission, so that is a fact about the package rather than a claim in a listing. It can open and save documents in your home folder, which is what lets a PDF you double-click in your file manager open in it; the file dialogs go through your desktop's file portal. Documents on a USB drive are yours to allow with snap connect megapdf:removable-media. Your documents and your signature never leave your computer, because there is no server for them to go to.

The interface is in English and French. MegaPDF is free software under the Apache License 2.0, so anyone can check any of the above.
