Ubuntu 16.04 or later?

Make sure snap support is enabled in your Desktop store.

Install using the command line

sudo snap install mkpass

Simple secure password generator

mkpass creates a secure password on the command line. By default, it creates a 30 character password with special symbols.

There are several options. You can control the password length, the number of generated passwords, decide to include special characters or not, or even include just the special symbols you’d like.

Special Note You may need to install "rng-tools" if the app seems to hang. This is because /dev/random is blocking awaiting entropy data. See the homepage for additional information:
